Recognized for his unmistakable plastic language and his outstanding teaching career, Francisco Castro Leñero (Mexico City, 1954-2022) emerged on the Mexican art scene in the late 1970s. His proposal is based on rectilinear patterns and a sober color palette whose reductive propensity is linked to the currents of constructivism, conceptualism, minimalism, informalism and geometric abstraction. Behind a presumed coldness, in the work of Francisco Castro Leñero there is a hidden beauty that is characterized by its expressiveness of effects.
Francisco Castro Leñero. A logic of beauty pays tribute to one of the main exponents of abstract art in Mexico, within the framework of his first death anniversary. The exhibition displays a representative selection of acrylic paintings, engravings, drawings and three-dimensional objects that synthesize almost five decades of artistic production and allow us to identify the different stages through which his work went. This retrospective seeks to promote the appreciation of abstract art among the public, as well as break the narratives that suppress visual languages based on geometry of emotional content.
